Yes this may be surprising, I was only 13 years old that time. But, don"t know how or why it happened to me so early. I fell dee* in love with a guy, who I used to think was annoying 2 months ago.
It was 1997, in Chittagong, Bang- ladesh, me and my family have just moved to a new apartment in a new area. So, after few weeks have passed, I started going back to school, since it was during Ramadan we moved. Well, I made some new friends in the neighborhood. This girl who was always hanging out with, her name was Ivy.
One day when I was going to school, I bumped into Ivy on the way out of my building, and she was standing next to this guy, he lived in the building right beside mine. He said “Hi” to me, and we just asked each other “how are you” and blah blah, then I had to leave. But I noticed that guy was looking at me. It was a different kind of look, look with love in his eyes. Few days later, I noticed whenever I go to school and come back from school, he is standing in his balcony, and smiling at me. If he is not around, and one of his friends see me, they start to yell out his name. Oh yeah, by the way, his name was Mamun.
So, I was very annoyed by those things. And I even told Ivy to tell Mamun to stop these foolishness. After my exams were over, I had a break. So I used to go to the roof and read books to spend my time. Mamun used to come to their roof also and both roofs where so close to each other that you can just jump from one to another.
Once I was reading a book, and I noticed Mamun come to their roof and he looked at me, and smiled. OH MY GOD! I don"t know what happened to me. That sweet smile just took me away. I smiled back at him, for the first time. I could never forget that moment. We used to smile at each other whenever we saw each other, but never had a chat. I was sure that he liked me a lot, because, anytime he would see me on the roof from his balcony, he came up to the roof right away. I fell in love with him very dee*. I was surprised that I did. The feelings I had was so beautiful and made me so happy.
Mamun did come to my roof one day to talk to me but I wanted him to go away. I didn"t want any one to see us talking. As you know, in Bangladesh rumors go around so fast. When we talked, I saw deep love in his eyes. I always smiled at him; I didn"t talk to him much. Still, life was going on so wonderfully. Mamun never told me he loved me. I thought that was because, I was 5/6 years younger than him.
Very soon, I found out that me and my family are leaving Bang- ladesh and coming to Canada. I was devas- tated. I cried all night but there was nothing to do. When Mamun found out, he asked me on the roof, if it was true. When I said yes, he asked how long will I be in Canada. The answer was maybe forever, we were going to settle in Canada. He looked depressed, all he said was “Oh”, then I told him out flight date.
The next month, it was Ramadan again. Mamun came to say good bye to me on the roof, he was leaving to spend his Eid with his family. That day, I was so sad, I felt like I lost something very important in my life. We said goodbye to each other, he said he thinks I am such a sweet girl, he hopes I have a great life in Canada. Oh my god, I couldn"t hold myself, I think my eyes became watery. I didn"t want him to see that I was crying. I said “you too” and tried to smile and left the roof right away.
That was the last day I ever saw my first love. Now 4 years later, here I am in CANADA. I have guy in my life now, whom I am dee* love with after Mamun. I never lose him.
I am ... over Mamun now. Everytime I remember those days, looking at each other on the roof, talking, I feel really down. I wonder where he is now, if we will even meet again... I can never forget my first love.

With the modernization of the world, people’s standard of living has improved a lot. Then there appears a state of sub-health among people which poses a new threat to them.
There are some tpical symptoms for people who are in a state of sub-health. First of all, those who suffer from it often have a headache or backache. Secondly, they feel like having a rest frequently. What upsets us most is that, the situation spreading countrywide. As a result, more and more workers in big cities are harassed by it, with a percentage of 75 in Beijing, 72 in Shanghai and 70 in Guangzhou respectively.
Then how can we sovle this problem effectibely? Experts suggest that the best way to keep ourselves thealthy is to do exercises. It is also very important that people should form a good living habit, for example, getting up early and going to sleep early. Only doing so can we keep us healthy.

压力
Life today is filled with sources of stress, much of which cannot be avoided, When stress appears to be a lifelong problem to many people, how it actually forms remains a subject of controversy to many scientists. The objective of this essay is to outline both the sources of stress and appropriate ways of dealing with it.
Many stressors arise from people"s circumstances. For example, the high-pressured and fast-paced lifestyle has made it unlikely for people to gain adequate leisure time. Failure to balance work and leisure causes them either to struggle with deteriorating health or to cope with psychological distress, e.g., anxiety and depression. Together with some other problems, such as disharmony with others, unpleasant work or living environment, it would increase stress to an unmanageable level.
Another group of stressors is intertwined with personality, People interpret events or situations differently. A problem taken as a threat by many people might be accepted as a positive challenge to others, Evidence is inconclusive about the reasons behind this distinction, but it is widely believed that a person of a cheerful disposition is less likely to be heavily affected by adversity. Of equal importance is the ability to handle with some issues, such as time and money. Considering the role of personality in deciding the attitudes toward an issue and responses to an event, the effect of stress management skills actually varies from person to person.
Methods to cope with stress are many, but the most effective ones are in fact not remote or complicated but accessible and practicable. People under stress are advised to participate more in recreational activities, adopt a sound dieting habit, and exercise regularly. They should learn to block out worries and try to keep the effect of a challenge in life to a minimum. Finally, it is important to nurture a good state of mind and to perceive things positively.
As suggested above, environment factors can be taken as the sources of stress and people"s personality determines the extent to which they are influenced by those factors. Adopting a healthy
lifestyle and proper attitudes toward life can promote people"s physical and psychological well-being and help them relieve stress.

Whatever one does, one should do it with confidence. If one has no confidence, there is little possibility that one can achieve anything when faced with hardships.
This truth seems to be self-evident. In reality, however, we do see a lot of people who always complain that they lack the ability to do something or that their difficulties are too great to overcome. For some, this might be true. But for the others, this only shows that they have lost heart. Why do some people often feel frustrated even though they are capable of doing something?
I think there are two main reasons. In the first place, these people don‘t have a proper evaluation of themselves. They tend to underestimate their capabilities. Secondly, it is possible that they exaggerate the difficulties. In my opinion, one can build up confidence by oneself as long as he has a right attitude towards his own abilities. We should neither underestimate nor overestimate our abilities. Try to find your advantages and that is OK. As a proverb says, "Where there is a will, there is a way." With confidence we can certainly cope with any task we are faced with.

Since their coming into being, automobiles have been significantly contributing to human industries, agricultures, and even the daily lives.
It is automobiles that have been shaping and reflecting the ways humans work and think. They accelerate the sustainable economic development. They boost industries. They also catalyze scientific research.
But nobody can deny that automobiles have also exerted some unfavorable impacts on social and economic fabric. First of all, they have seriously polluted the environment in which humans survive. Secondly, traffic jam wastes lots of time. Finally, they also waste the money, especially in metropolis.
My opinion is that in the foreseeable future, scientists will be able to solve all problems. Exactly, human will eventually be able to minimize the harmful effects of automobiles, whereas their advantages can be maximized.

From the above table, we can see that the students of this university have three mainchoices after graduation. Of these choices, the students who have found a job only take up50%. In contrast, students who pursue further study by taking the postgraduate entranceexam or going abroad have increased greatly than before, with the total percentage of 47%.Indeed, this phenomenon is also quite common in other universities.
The following factors can account for the choices of graduates. Above all, with theenrollment extension of universities, college graduates are facing the severe employmentsituation, which forces them to find another way out. Moreover, in information age, knowledgeis updated very rapidly. Many college students find their knowledge is not enough for theirfuture career. Besides, some college students would not like to enter into the complicatedsociety and want to escape from the reality temporarily by going to further study.
From my point of view, one’s choice after graduation should be based on his individualcondition. Though taking the postgraduate entrance exam or going abroad for further study isa good choice, it is not necessarily true of everyone, because it might involve many factors, such as your future career direction, your economic condition. Therefore, we should take a fullaccount before we make our decisions.

On Idol Worshipping
Idol worshipping is not a new phenomenon, but the recent cases of unreasonable behaviors conducted by some young people have made it a focus of attention again. Especially,a young girl’s father has committed * just to wake up his daughter who is possessed by the idea of following her idol wherever he goes.
Some people argue that the mass media is to blame for the tragedy, because they always show a picture of glamorous movie stars, pop singers and all the other entertainers.
They represent a lifestyle that young people desire to have.
However, the young people are just not mature enough to distinguish the reality from the dream. Other people believe that it shows the weakness of our educational system.
The school pays much attention to their studies and exams, while overlooks their psychological status.
As far as I am concerned, the tragedy sends out an alarm signal to us all.
The media, the school, the parents and even the youth themselves have to reflect on the issue and try to stop such kind of tragedy from happening again.

Nowadays, going abroad for studies is enjoying astriking popularity among adolescents. Importanceshould be attached to studying abroad. There are a great many advantages of studying overseas. First and foremost, living andstudying abroad offers students a different perspective of the world. On a university campus, international students are likely to encounter their counterparts from various countries andareas and are exposed to diverse ideas and values. What is more, overseas experience is thebest opportunity for the real-life use of foreign languages. There is no better opportunity toimprove second-language skills than living in the country in which it is spoken. Generally peaking, it is my view that although going abroad is expensive and perhapspainful, the payoff is worthwhile. In the first place, in addition to knowledge, overseasstudents can gain precious experiences that those who stay at home will never have.Furthermore, overseas experience, frustrating and painful as it may be, is conducive to thegrowth of adolescents.

Nowadays there are a lot of fake commodities on the market. They range from daily commodities to expensive goods. They have caused many harms in society.
First, fake commodities damage the consumers‘ interests. In addition, fake commodities affect businessmen and manufacturers, too. Those who have been deceived will be reluctant to consume, which will make business slack. Worst of all, some fake commodities such as medicine, gas cylinder and electric devices will endanger people’s lives and social security.
There are many ways to eliminate fake commodities but the following ones may be effective. First, the laws of the protection of consumers should be enforced to severely punish those who produce or sell fake commodities. Second, consumers should be taught how to tell good commodities from fake ones. Third, they should be advised to protect their own interests and not to be led astray by false advertisements.
In a word, the whole society should pay close attention to the problem of fake commodities and launch a campaign against them. Only in this way will fake commodities be possibly eliminated from the market in the future.

The General House Effect
The green house effect is not a new phenomenon. Scientists have known for centuries that a layer of gases naturally surrounds the earth like an insulating blanket, trapping the reflected energy of the sun and preventing it from escaping into space that is what makes the earth warm enough for people, plants and animals. However, recent human activity has boosted concentrations of greenhouse gases and enhanced their heat-trapping ability. The man culprit is carbon dioxide which scientists estimate accounts for nearly half of global warming.Co2 is released from burning fossil fuels and from clearing and burning forests.
There are other important greenhouse gases too and they cannot be ignored. CFCs, for example, may account for 25 per cent of global warming in the text century if their production is not scaled back. But carbon dioxide is the pivotal one. The UN International panel on Climatic Change now says that Co2 levels could double within in 40 years if present rates of fossil-fuel burning and deforestation continue. That means an average temperature increase between two and four degrees centigrade and a sea-level rise of perhaps a foot by 2050.
No one knows for certain how local weather will change as a result of this warming. But one thing is clear-it will be no picnic. Indications are that the earth will be take place not over thousands of years, but over decades. And it is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict.
The most sophisticated computerized climate models in the US and UK , agree that weather around the world will become more irregular and more extreme. In general, temperatures will become more towards the poles than at the equator. overall rainfall will also increase as higher temperatures boost evaporation from the seas. But the distribution of precipitation will shift. Some areas will become wetter, others will be drier. In middle latitudes, Climate zones will march poles-wards. In tropical and subtropical parts of the third would, warming will be less but the impact on a relatively stable climate will be greater.
Global warming will also cause ocean levels to rise---though not, as popular wisdom has it, due to the Antarctic ice cap melting. If this catastrophe occurs it will not be for at least another century. Instead, sea levels will rise sim* because water expands as it warms. people living in low-lying coastal regions will be in danger. The world’s great river deltas, home to millions in Asia and Latin America and containing some of the Third World’s richest food-growing land, could become brackish graveyards.
6. Which gas is the most responsible for global warming?
A. Carbon Dioxide.
B. CFCs.
C. Green houses.
D. other gases in the atmosphere.
7. What will happen if man continues to burn fossil fuels and forests at present rates?
A. All fossil fuels, like coal, oil and gas, will run out.
B. Deforestation will give rise to the loss of co2.
C. The temperature will increase two to four degrees Fahrenheit.
D. The rise of sea-level will reach about a foot by 2050.
8. Why is the precise impact the global warming will exert on local weather hard to predict?
A. Because the great changes in temperature will take place in just decades.
B. Because the course of changes will last thousands of years.
C. Because people are not sure whether the earth will be warmer than before.
D. Because there are many other factors involved in this change.
9. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. The earth, as a whole, will become much wetter.
B. The temperature around equator will rise more than around the poles.
C. The amount of rainfall will be the same from place to place.
D. The weather around the world will be more unusual in the next few decades.
10. It can be concluded that
A. The rise of ocean levels is due to the Antarctic ice cap melting.
B. The temperature increase will take a gradual course.
C. Human beings will have to suffer more from environmental damage.
D. Without greenhouse gases the earth would be extremely hot.
6.A
第一段有这样一句话:the main culprit is carbon dioxide, which scientists estimate accounts for nearly half of global warming 从这句话可以看出,二氧化碳是全球变暖的罪魁祸首,对全球变暖负有重大责任。
7.D
8.A
It is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict.

No one knows for certain how local weather will change as a result of this warming. But one thing is clear-it will be no picnic. Indications are that the earth will be take place not over thousands of years, but over decades. And it is the speed of the change, which makes the precise impact so difficult to predict.
The most sophisticated com*rized climate models in the US and UK , agree that weather around the world will become more irregular and more extreme.

13. Since carbon dioxide contributes to global warming, scientists believe a growing build-up of the gas would make the environmental problem increasingly worse.
14. If global warming continues with increased precipitation in the Southern ocean, there will be more stratification and that will favor diatoms.
(precipitation n.
15. The study, which took place during a month -long expedition during the Antarctic summer, was also one of the first to show that some types of algae absorb carbon dioxide better than others.
(expedition n.

Read the following text. Choose the best word or phrase marked A,B,C or D for each numbered blank.
Nearly three-quarters of the earth is covered with water. Water heats up more slowly than land, but once it has become warm, it takes longer to_1_down. If the earth’s surface were entirely land, the temperature at night would_2_quite quickly and night would become cooler than the day, as it is on the moon. This does_3_happen in inland deserts, the temperate_4_, is very much affected by the oceans around them. The areas close to the sea have a “maritime climate”, _5_rather cool summers and warm winters. The interiors, far from the sea, have a_6_climate with extremely hot summers and cold winters.
Rain_7_from the evaporation of rivers, seas and lakes. Even after heavy rain the pavements in the city do not take long to dry_8_the rainwater evaporates into the air. on a warm dry day it evaporates very rapidly, _9_warm air can absorb more moisture than cold air. But at any particular temperature, the_10_can hold only a certain maximum amount of water vapor. The air is then saturated like a sponge that can not hold_11_more water. The lower the temperature, the_12_ water vapor is required to saturate the air.
All over the surface of the earth, millions of tons of water are_13_every second, condensing in the air into drops so small_14_it takes thousands of them to make a single raindrop. It is these_15_ droplets that make clouds. When clouds roll in from the sea over the warmer land, they are forced to_16_and become cooler in the colder atmosphere. As the air cools sown, it may pass through its saturation point and_17_some of its water vapor turns to rain. Day in , day out,the_18_water circulates between the air and the land:rivers_19_to make clouds, clouds make rain, rain makes rivers which in turn run into the sea. This is called the rain_20_.
